So first I would like to say a thank you to Mr. Barker. He is an amazing English teacher and this project was a very good learning process for all of us to have. We got to learn the basics of having a website, making a small business, and how to manage our time.
First I will start with the website. At first all of us were confused with this site and didn't really know what we were doing. But after a little help and time we got to learn how to easily navigate Weebly and make posts and such that others all around the world can access, which is crazy to think about. Next, we all learnt more about what it's like to have a small business. Of course with was on a much smaller scale, but it had the same concept. We have a website for it, an Instagram account to keep everyone more updated, and we have to think about the smaller things like who gets what money and the prices of the soaps in general. Lastly was how to manage our time. For me personally, I will carry this one in particular for a long time after this. We had to work together to plan out when good times to meet were, working around each others schedules so we could still get our other work done and do our activities, but also so we had plenty of time to get the project done. So after all of this with the project, I think I speak for all three of us that this was a very fun project, and that it taught us a lot about ourselves. Like for me, now I know how to make soap if I ever needed to know that skill. Anyways, until next time y'all. Soapaholics out <3

The new normal is starting to come together. Sadly, we still haven't been able to get together to work on new soaps. I just wanted to say that I hope everyone is keeping safe and keeping their distance.
Have any of y'all tried to make some soaps during this quarantine??? It's a perfect gift to give to someone during these tough times. I know it isn't the ideal circumstances, but it's something to get your mind off of things. So I'm gonna give you the instructions to make these awesome soaps. First: Get the melt and pour soap base at your local craft store, there are many different types and they all work just as good!!! Second: Melt the soap base in 30 second increments. If the soap isn't completely melted start doing 10 second increments. Third: Mix a few drops of essential oil into the melted soap base until it gets to the scent that you are hoping for. Fourth: If you have soap color you can add that into the soap or if you have anything else you want to add in, this is the step that you do just that. Fifth: Pour the soap into a mold and just let it sit for about 30 minutes or until cooled. That's it!! Just five simple steps to create a perfect and authentic gift!!! Hope everyone is doing well and make sure to wish you mom a Happy Mother's Day!!! I want to start this blog post off just by saying how much we miss school and how much we miss seeing each other. We have all learned how much we need to really think about the things happening and be thankful for everything that we have. Now with that being said it has effected us in many ways.
As we have said we haven't been able to get together and put our ideas together recently and that has been very hard. We all have different things that we bring to the group. Of course we have continued to make soap individually but it is no where near as exciting. A few weeks back we wrote that we were trying to make some marbled soap. I made some this weekend that actually worked and looked and smelled so good!!! Sadly, I forgot to take pictures of the process before I gave them to my family members in the area. I decided not to charge them for the soaps because this is a though time for everyone right now and I thought a little gift might put a smile on their faces. I will make a new batch during the week and make sure to document what happens during the process. Although, I am trying to salvage as much of my supplies as I possibly can so that I don't have to run out to the store for a nonessential visit. Just remember. The more we stay home the faster we can get our lives somewhat back to normal. I hope that everyone is staying safe and washing their hands!! See y'all soon.... After really thinking about COVID-19 as a group, we realized how ironic our project was considering what is going on around the world. What a better time to base a whole project off of making soaps than now? None of us knew the full extent the corona virus would have on us all until it hit us, and it hit us hard. The stores are selling out of handsanitizers, soaps, toilet paper, etc, so now is such a perfect time for our group to be making homemade soaps. Not only are we stocked full of many different scents and shapes, but our soap is also pretty cheep, selling at around $4 a bar. That is cheaper than most stores and will help with your new family budgets as times get harder. So our group has been having a little bit of trouble getting together to actually make the soap as a team recently. On weekends when it's most ideal to get together, we seem to run into a few hiccups that end up not allowing us to get together.
We still have been individually buying and selling the soaps we have to the best of our abilities with this virus going around. The quarantine has definitely been a challenge to get around with finding people to buy from us and get together to make it, but we are doing our best to make things work out and keep our little business going. Hopefully we will be able to get together as a group and will have plenty of pictures and new things to report on. Until then, stay safe and healthy!! :) Welcome back everyone! I hope during this quarantine period, you've found ways to keep yourself occupied.
This quarantine has definitely affected all of us in some shape or form but, today I'm going to talk about how it has affected our soap making process. We have not been able to get together as a whole group and make any new kinds of soap, we also have not been able to get together and share our materials which has resulted in a lower amount of soap being made as well as a lower variety in colors, shapes and scents. With stores closing unless they were seemed necessary, it has put a halt of supplies we can buy, once we run low we're kind of out of luck, except for amazon. Even though this has been inconvenient to us, we know it could be a lot worse. We all have stayed hopeful and excited to see what is brought our way next. We hope that once this quarantine is lifted and life goes back to somewhat normal, we're able to get together and keep working on what we wanted to do originally. We miss seeing each other and we miss seeing you all and making soap for y'all. Stay healthy and don't forget you can still order online! See y'all next week, bye!! Hello everyone. I would just like to thank everyone for being so patient with our soaps during this time. I hope everyone is staying inside and staying healthy during this rough time. With that being said we haven't had a whole lot of time to discuss our new ideas with each other.
Today I'm going to talk about the different products that we use and how we use them. Maybe this will seem interesting and fun to you and you can make some cool soaps over the break. One thing we use are essential oils. We use these if someone wants a soap that has a very subtle smell, such as lavender and peppermint. We have started using a lot more soap scents. The soap scents allow us to make soaps with more of you everyday scents such as, different types of fruit and just normal scents. Another thing we use are plastic soap molds. We like to use these because they are very simple shapes and if we're being honest, the plastic molds are the easiest to get soap out of after they've cooled. Although, we have found that cookie cutters are very fun to work with!! They are able to give us so many more awesome designs to work with. Even though it is a little harder to get out, it's worth it. When we use the cookie cutters were have to wrap it in tin foil so that they liquids don't get out, but when you take it out you can see all of the tin foil marks on the bottom. So to get that off we decided to use a vegetable peeler It actually works so good. I highly recommend a vegetable peeler if you need to smooth your soap out. We have soap dyes that we use to color the soaps that we make. We only buy three colors at a time because we can mix the colors to get different shades or even completely different colors. Oh my gosh, I almost completely forgot! We use a melt and pour soap base. There are all different kinds of bases you can choose from. We mainly use glycerin and goat milk base. Welcome back everyone!
This is officially our first week being in quarantine and not being able to see each other or be at school due to this whole Coronavirus thing, and let me tell you I sure do miss seeing these ladies! Although not being able to get together we have worked on our own trying to make new soap and new designs as we stated in the previous blog. The process of making more improved and more challenging soaps by ourselves had been going good, but it's had it's downfalls and challenges as well. Each member of the group has their own stuff to make soap, but one of us has more of something than the other. That is why it is easier and we get more soap made when we are together rather than when we are alone. Along with the challenging designs, we stuck to more simple designs that we have done all along that we knew we could do. We hope to get together soon after this panic has calmed down some and get back at trying harder things. Well, it's been a real hectic week with this whole coronavirus thing spreading. Let me tell you, that just gives us a whole lot more time to work on this project and we are taking advantage of it. ![]() We also got some super cute soap molds that are more aesthetically pleasing. Of course we had to test them out, and let me just tell you they are SUPER cute. People seem to love them, we got a message from two people right after we posted on our story. They're selling quick so don't miss out!! So far we have sold $108 worth of soap! That is already way more than we thought we would have sold throughout the whole project, let alone just week 3.
After evaluating everything we have had to buy for the process of making the soaps, our profit comes out to about $70 which is insane! We want to say a special thanks to everyone who has purchased soap from us so far, and we will be having new soaps available soon so it's not too late to buy some! See y'all next week! Welcome back everyone!! We're very excited to share with you all what we have been up to this past week! This weekend Katy and Kaitlin went over to Bailey's house and for almost three hours all we did was make soap and packaged the soap and sold the bars we made! We didn't really come in with a plan on what we were going to do but we eventually figured it all out. We began by making bigger and less complicated designs using the actual soap molds we have purchased at the craft store, but after about five bars made Bailey came up with the idea of using cookie cutters on a baking sheet to make different and more unique designs. We ended up making seventeen bars of soap with many different scents and colors. After making the soap we began to package what we made, and later that night we ended up selling all the bars we made earlier that day to a couple different people. We have also sold a few bars to our friends before we had met up with each other. As of right now we have sold $64.00 worth of soap. Our prices range from two to six dollars depending on the size and amount of soap sold in each unit. We have made a bigger profit in week two than we had thought we would. Before the next time we get together we hope to buy more options in the scent field and maybe more options in the color field. We hope to have more variety before the end of this project. Can't wait to show y'all what we make next week and what has changed from this week to the next!
See ya next week!! |
